I look at businesses in my area that are similar not as competition but as collaborators. I own a wedding venue and I am one of 11 in a 10 mile radius. Yes ONE of ELEVEN. I just had our 2nd Venue Owners Lunch at my venue this past Wednesday. Its a wonderful way to stay in contact with each other, learn about success’s and possible failures, and maybe even seek out some advice. We all offer similar products but are all unique in our own way. Being close like we are in our community keeps each of us looking at what makes us unique and strive to be the best version of ourselves that we can. It also allows up to recommend each other when we are A. not available or B. not a good fit. We are able to look at each others pricing and make sure that we all are pricing ourselves correctly for the services we are providing. Its also a great resource group in the case that one of us becomes unable to work an event and needs help (due to sickness or other circumstances beyond our control). So look to your community of like minded businesses in a different light and oh the places that will take you!
